Blarg!

Well, here we are at the fourth location for this blog.

So long Vox, we hardly knew ye!

Hopefully I can get off my butt and post more now that I have a new fancy blog with a lame name because some jerk stole my original title.

Thanks buddy, I was “delicious candy” since 2006.

I hope you choke on your blog.

I'm disgusted at the way I've been ignoring this blog lately.

I've seen AC/DC, Motley Crue, Kiss and Iron Maiden all in the last year and I didn't write about any of these shows.

huh?

Oh well, I guess I'll just go over them now, just for myself.

AC/DC – this was my first time seeing AC/DC and they were awesome.
Unfortunately, it was at BC place so I was super far away, but it was still a super-fun show.

Motley Crue – I've seen the Crue once before, but that was a long time ago.
Again, a fun show, not a great turn-out at GM place, but the floor and lower bowl were packed and there was a great vibe in the place.
It was a pretty stripped-down show, no big screens and not a lot of pyro.
Technical difficulties marred "Home Sweet Home" causing Vince Neil to proclaim "Well, sometimes things just don't fuckin' work" so that was pretty funny.

Kiss – 2nd time seeing Kiss, first with Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer.
It was a good show, but Tommy singing "Shock Me" seemed a bit disrespectful to me.
Oh well, a good time was had by all, I had a lot of fun at this show.

Iron Maiden – Awesome, I love Maiden.
2nd time seeing them as well, and they did not disappoint.
I did hear some complaints that there was "not enough old stuff" as they did a lot of new material, from about 2000 onwards, but I didn't mind.
It gave me a chance to rediscover those albums as I usually reach for a "classic" Maiden album instead of a newer one.
Also, not a lot of pyro, but I barely noticed, I was so into the show.

My one problem with the show was how much I hate watching Janick Gers.
If you like Janick, I have no problem with that, please don't post any nasty comments, they will not change my mind about him.
I've heard he's a super nice guy, but watching him live is embarrassing.
He jumps around the stage like some idiot teenager in an airband and he's a 53 year old man in Iron freakin' Maiden!!!!
Every time I looked at his side of the stage I was absolutely filled with a burning rage, and I thought to myself, "is this really how I should feel while watching my all-time favorite band?"
Anyway, Bruce and everyone else were amazing as always, Adrian Smith tripped and fell and if I kept my eyes to the left I enjoyed the crap outta this show.

ANVIL!!!!!

A couple weeks ago, I saw the movie: "Anvil – the story of Anvil!" and really enjoyed it.

As a musician, I could definitely relate to the gong show moments, and the ridiculous amount of hope it takes to put yourself out there.

I watched the movie 3 times in a couple days, it just seemed to really have something to it.

It was funny, heartbreaking and inspiring, so when I heard that Anvil was actually due to play my town I quickly bought a ticket.

The Show was this Saturday and it was Awesome!

First, the movie played and from my seat in the side balcony I could see the members of Anvil periodically coming out and checking out the film.

After the movie they played a set to an adoring crowd.

I'd heard they just played a short set, but luckily that turned out not to be true.

I guess I'm not very good at reviewing show, but I'll just say that they played (almost) all the songs I wanted to hear, and the musicianship was amazing, Robb Reiner in particular blew me away. His drum solo was off the chain!

After the show the guys came out and signed everything that was shoved in front of them (including my DVD). I even got to see Lips almost lose it on a couple of super-annoying guys who kept asking him incredibly inane and pointless questions!

I got pictures with both Lips and Robb too, they were super nice and seemed genuinely grateful for their second chance.

If you haven't seen the movie, I highly recommend it.

If you like metal, it's a no-brainer, but even if you don't you'll find something to relate to.

I guarantee it, see the movie, and go see the band if you are lucky enough to have the chance, you won't regret it!

Wow, I haven't posted in forever on here!

I guess Ive been busy, and anytime I tried to write a post, something would go wrong, like when I reviewed the entire KISS concert, only to accidentally delete everything I wrote.

Oh well, check out this video of records made out of chocolate!

Oh Crap…

The New York Times is reporting that Disney is buying Marvel Comics.

This really bothers me to a great extent.

Being a huge Spider-man fan, I'm obviously worried about cause this may have on the character.

I mean, there's always been cheesy merchandise, that doesn't bother me, I just hope Spidey doesn't become "Disnefied" in any way.

Oh well, I guess we'll see how it pans out, though for the record, I think this is going to be terrible.

Yep, the title applies to both KISS, and my near-constant complaining about them!

Alright, here we go, the KISS meets the phantom of the park t-shirt!

Who's insanely retarded idea was this?

Sure, the movie is incredibly entertaining, but only in a really ironically campy cheesy way, is anyone really going to want to advertise for this film?

Also, it's just a lame cartoon, if it was the cover of the VHS version, it might have been kind of neat.

Oh well, who cares, I'm not even that annoyed by this one, I just thought it was kinda funny.

NOFX – Frisbee

So a new NOFX album was released recently, inciting panic and nausea at the prospect of being one of the first to order it online.

Perhaps I should explain…

Whenever NOFX releases a new album, they usually do a limited run on color vinyl.

It's very limited, so you really have to be paying attention. (the color pressing of "They've actually gotten worse live" was just 521 copies!)

So, with the release of "Frisbee" (the CD was called "Coaster") instead of color vinyl they did a pressing of 1500 hand-numbered 7" singles with 2 bonus songs.

Now usually I'm right on top of this stuff, but this time I totally dropped the ball.

For one thing, the pre-order happened about a month before the record came out, so I wasn't checking the site as often as I usually would be.

Anyway, the pre-order started on a Friday and I didn't notice until the next Monday, giving everyone a 3 day head start.

I thought I'd missed it for sure, and nobody knew how limited the single would be, just that it was hand numbered, meaning it would probably be low.

After checking the Fat Wreck wiki message boards and comparing everyone else's order numbers I was sure I missed out.

So I was super happy when my order came and I had 7" #724, right in the middle of the bunch.

How did that happen? I figured if I did manage to get one, it would be number 1498 or 1499, not somewhere in the middle.

Oh well, I wasn't going to complain!

It's funny, I've written a huge article already and haven't once mentioned anything about the music on "Frisbee."

Well, it's pretty good, I really like NOFX so I like it.

The standout tracks for me are "We called it America","The Quitter" and "My Orphan Year".

My favorite is "Eddie, Bruce and Paul" which to the average person might sound like a homosexual love triangle, but is actually about Iron Maiden and their lead singer switchover in the early 80's.

Classic!

My least favorite is easily "Creeping out Sara", I just find it boring and unfunny.

Anyway, a pretty solid release and the bonus 7" is the icing on the cake!

There's just something about getting a bunch of stuff for super-cheap that always makes my day.

I guess I'm probably not alone in that…

Anyway, P.D.'s Hot Shop had their infamous sidewalk sale yesterday and I stocked up.

I love waiting for a big sale and then being set for the whole summer.

I managed to snag a nearly complete set up, including my favorite Skull deck, the Barry Walsh Blaster and the best wheels ever, Crystal Skulls.

Not to mention the windbreaker jacket (I almost want it to rain, I'm sure I won't have to wait long) hat and t-shirt all at insanely low prices!

Sorry, kind of a boring post, but the joy of these deals had to be documented.
